About BBN...

The Best Bar None (BBN) Award is granted to British alcohol-vending organisations with long standing commitment to social responsibility and the safety of people using their premises.

The award, which aims to cut down on alcohol related crime and irresponsible drinking, is encouraging premises to be a safer, and more sociable environment, allowing customers to relax and enjoy there evening.

Premises gaining the award display a plaque outside to show the public that they have reached the standard thus giving the customer more informed choice when choosing were to consume alcohol, and supporting premises who seek to trade at a higher standard.

BBN was initiated in Manchester in 2003 and Dundee, in 2005, became the second Scottish city to adopt the scheme, with Award winners announced in August 2006. It is the Aim of BBNdundee to maintain links with other areas why run the scheme. We'll endeavour to maintain up-to-date information on BBN accredited premises throughout Scotland and the UK so that our Dundee customers are not only safe here, but when they travel the country. You'll find our map of Dundee acredited premises on our 'who's bbn in dundee' page. 'bbn-uk' will direct you to website and information from areas throughout Scotland and the UK.

Over 60 areas of the UK run BBN, 11 in Scotland alone - Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Fraserburgh, Glasgow, Glenrothes, Inverness, Inverurie, Kirkcaldy, Perth and Peterhead.

The net result is a reduction of crime and harm and an improvement in trading and standards.

BBN is supported by the UK government, and part of the UK National Alcohol Strategy.

5 Digits
There is an additional award this year for disability equality/awareness. To assist in the assessment process, we have enrolled the 5 digits group to undertake the assessment process in this category on behalf of the scheme as they will obviously be aware of all relevant issues surrounding disability equality/awareness.

About the 5 Digits Disability Group
Launched in July 2003, the 5 Digits campaigning focuses on raising awareness of disability issues such as public access to retail outlets, transport and improving local services for the better. 5 Digits has been leading calls for the full implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act at a local community level in Dundee.
The 5 Digits have adopted a positive agenda which challenges negative views, stereotypes, attitudes and images around disability. Their ultimate aim is to work in partnership with local communities to bring about change and to challenge the discrimination and exclusion which many people with disability experience on a daily basis.
The individuals who make up 5 Digits are a strong group of people, both individually and collectively, and they have a positive view of themselves. Above all, they are confident of their ability to change their community for the better.
